Slashing is the mechanism that automatically removes — burns — staked GTC from accounts that violate the rules. It raises the cost of forgery, making it far more expensive for Sybil attackers to participate in the Ethereum ecosystem.
Slashing only applies to accounts that demonstrably break the rules. Legitimate participants who stake on their own unique humanity, or are vouched for by people who trust them, are not penalized for honest activity.
There is no fixed minimum. Staking more GTC on yourself and on people you trust increases your Passport score and strengthens your position in the Onchain Trust Graph — you choose the amount that fits how much you want to attest.
Any GTC staked by an account found to have violated the rules is slashed and burned. This protects honest users and keeps the financial incentives pointed toward being a good actor.
The Onchain Trust Graph is the network of stakes between people. Just as you might trust someone your friend vouches for, you can trust the identities of people who have been vouched for by many others — building a web of verifiable, human trust.
Uniqueness is established by aggregating identity credentials from verified sources and by the stakes people place on one another. Accounts that fail these checks or break the rules are flagged and subject to slashing.
